Childspring's
Annual Christmas Party- December 7, 2008
The sound of Christmas carols filled the halls
of First Presbyterian Church as we gathered to celebrate
Christmas together on Sunday, December 14th. Light refreshments
were served, carols were sung, and a visit from Santa brought
smiles to the group. It was in these precious moments in
which each of us were reminded of the true meaning of Christmas.
The Mosley family and Aleyda from Honduras celebrated amongst
us. Board member, Jennifer Needle gathered the children
around the table to decorate gingerbread cookies and make
reindeers out of small clay pots and Santa came bearing
gifts and his presence captured the attention of children
all around the church. This afternoon of Christmas celebration
was enjoyed by all and was a wonderful break from the hustle
and bustle of the season.
"An
Invitation to Belong" Dinner- October 4, 2008
On October 4th, 2008 over one hundred supporters gathered
at Lever and Jan Stewart’s house for an evening to celebrate
Childspring International. We dined together over a delicious
array of Mexican cuisine provided by Zocalo’s Restaurant
with an opportunity to mix and mingle to the tune of local
guitarist, Juan Ayala.
The plates were cleared,
but the evening just began as we turned our attention to
a short video of images with captivating stories from a
host family perspective. When the last image of the video
slowly faded the crowd fell silent in awe of how Childspring
has made a significant difference in thousands of lives.
A sense of empowerment was soon found when several discovered
this new found hope for children all around the world.
Amidst our crowd that night, we had five of our Childspring
children and their host families with us: Marcdalie, Jude,
and Moise from Haiti, Troy from Jamaica and Natalia from
Columbia. Their presence spoke volumes as each of these
precious children were given an opportunity for a better
life. Many of them will return home to loving families with
education scholarships and a new found confidence bound
to meet their greatest hopes. The celebration lasted well
into the evening as we began to disclose and continue be
enthralled in the hope of Childspring.
4th
Annual Childspring Challenge- June 7, 2008
The
Fourth Annual Childspring Challenge was a huge success!
Many thanks to the sponsors, players and volunteers who
helped make this tournament possible. Saturday, June 7th
is a day to remember for Childspring in 2008, as we were
able to raise over $32,000 from this remarkable event! The
proceeds will endow medical treatment opportunities for
the upcoming children as we work towards our goal to treat
250 children in 2008. Seventy golfers, forty volunteers
and seven of our Childspring children arrived early at Cross
Creek Country Club and Café for an exciting day of golf.
Several of our Childspring children, Nilton, Herby, John,
Moises, Melissa, Kalina, and Jude, had the opportunity to
inspire the golfers as they were chauffeured around the
golf course to distribute refreshing water as the temperature
soared into the triple digits. The children are exceptionally
thankful for all the contributors as your support truly
makes a difference on their lives.
The Turner Team
took First Place in the tournament scoring a low of 44,
just above The Sigmund and Cato Teams. Following a game
of golf, several of our players gathered to participate
in our closest to the pin contest with Steve Ike, a host
parent, almost shooting a hole in one! Alongside the tournament,
the auction captured attention of many as auctioneer, Carolyn
Blaine, led a remarkable show. Host Father and Board Member,
Cliff Robinson, inspired many with his family’s hosting
experience with Bibi from Tanzania reminding all of the
true meaning behind the tournament. We want to extend our
greatest appreciation to George McCarty as we are extremely
grateful for he has served as a pillar of strength in arranging
this tournament for the past four years. We are
looking forward to seeing you next year for our Fifth Annual
Childspring Challenge on June 6, 2009!
