Fran Spearman was so moved by the passion for helping children she saw at Childspring that she dreamed about it after her tour of our offices. Recently retired from a career in nursing, Fran is a focused and pragmatic volunteer who is happiest when she has a to-do list in her hands. Some of her many projects have included soliciting American doctors’ services, finding pharmacies with the best prices for children’s longer-term prescriptions, and communicating with children’s families about progress on their cases.
Fran says that she enjoys volunteering at Childspring because many of the skills she learned from previous jobs can now make a big difference in the lives of children. She says that the position was an unexpected fit—“I never imagined that I’d be in this [nonprofit] arena”—but says she loves the tasks she’s assigned and the spirit of the Program team.
“It’s such a collaborative effort here. People are happy and thankful for what I’m doing. It’s really gratifying. In my thirty years of nursing, it was never like this.”
